Hair loss, back pain and the other new Omicron symptoms identified – North Wales Live

Around three million Brits had coronavirus on New Year’s Eve, according to fresh reports.

As of January 5, government statistics have revealed that 1,281,588 people tested positive with coronavirus in the past week, with 1,195 deaths reported.

This is due to the extremely transmissible mutant strain Omicron, which has wreaked havoc on the health sector, businesses, and people’s daily lives as a whole.

Amid the rising tide of coronavirus cases, people have been urged to exercise caution and stay vigilant for emerging Omicron signs and symptoms.

The most common signs of this form of the virus are a runny nose, headache, fatigue and aches, although there are other symptoms you may not be aware of.

Here are four new symptoms that appear to be directly linked to this new form of coronavirus.

Hair loss

According to the American Academy of Dermatology Association , hair shedding is also a common symptom. This is because it happens when more hairs than normal enter their “shedding” phase post-fever.

It is in fact quite normal to experience hair loss after suffering from a fever or illness.

Most people see noticeable hair shedding two to three months after having a fever or illness. Handfuls of hair can come out when you shower or brush your hair.

This hair shedding can last for six to nine months before it stops. It is however normal for most people to then see their hair return before long once the shedding has stopped.

Nausea

Professor Tim Spector from the Zoe covid study app has spoken of some unusual symptoms to be aware of.

In a YouTube video, the professor said nausea is being reported for many in the beginning stages of coronavirus caused by the Omicron variant.

Dr Sanket Jain, Pulmonologist Consultant at a hospital in Mumbai, India, also shared that “one of my patients, just five days back, got admitted with a complaint of loss of appetite, nausea, and vomiting”, according to the Express.

Dr Jain said: “As per protocol, we conducted RT-PCR, and it came positive.

“Such symptoms are commonly being observed nowadays especially in infections of Omicron”.

Back pain

Another lesser-known symptom being reported is back pain.
